  • In the Elbe Sandstone Mountains in Saxon Switzerland there is one of Germany's most popular hiking stages. The eighteen km long section between the Lichtenhainer Wasserfall and Schmilka is considered a royal stage - a route that has been enjoying tourist fame for two hundred years and artists of Romanticism, including Caspar David Friedrich. The Malerweg hiking map presents the hiking trail of the same name in the Leporello design, which leads through the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. The starting point is Liebethal on the right side of the Elbe, after sixty -eight km the Elbe is crossed and the Malerweg leads on the left side of the Elbe via Königstein to the destination Pirna. The entire route is divided into eight stages in the infote part of the painter path map to enjoy the unique rocky landscape in the Saxon Switzerland National Park.
