- Lake Tapps and its neighbor-lakes, eventually encompassing a 2,400-acre basin surrounded by man-made dikes to hold the water in. The purpose was hydroelectric generation. Called the White River Project, Puget Sound Energy generated electrical power for the surrounding region until it ceased power production in 2004. Now, the Cascade Water Alliance is the main controller of the Lake Tapps. The water in Lake Tapps has its origins in a glacier, with a summer temperature average of only 50 degrees, allowing cold water fish to thrive. Tiger muskie, smallmouth bass, carp, yellow perch and rainbow trout are all found in the lake.
