• Center Hill Lake was formed in 1948 when contractors working with the Army Corps of Engineers completed Center Hill Dam. Initially intended to provide flood control, hydroelectric generators were added later to create power for the region. In the years since its inception, Center Hill lake has become a popular recreation destination, attracting millions of visitors each year. The lake contains areas of varying depths and water movement, providing good habitat for a variety of fish species. In the main river channel, anglers target many types of gamefish and panfish, though black bass, crappie and walleye are among the favorites. In the tailwaters of the lake, cool water released from the dam’s power generators has created an exceptional trout fishery.
