A living volcanic area. The park got its name for the pair of massive red tinged cliffs framing a geothermically active interior of steam vents and bubbling springs. The park is home to a profusion of plains, game and birdlife. Walking is allowed, making it ideal for hiking, biking and rock climbing. The towering cliffs, the gorges, rock towers, and volcanoes make it a memorable park. The unique geological formations which include Hobley’s volcano, Obsidian caves, Fischer’s tower, and numerous birds especially raptors upon the cliffs are some of the attractions of this park.
There is rich wildlife such as Maasai Giraffe, Zebra, Thomson’s and Grant’s Gazelle, Warthog, Eland, Buffalo, Lion, Leopard, Impala, Klipspringer, Rock Hyrax, and Chanler’s Mountain Reed Buck. More than 100 species of birds have been recorded, including the rare Lammergeyer Vulture, the Cape Eagle Owl, and the elusive Verreaux’s Eagle- both eagles nest at the Ol Njorowa gorge.
