Frustrated by the limited back-country map options for the Moosehead Lake Region of Maine, David DeLorme founded the DeLorme Publishing Company in 1976 with a clear and ambitious vision: to create a better map
of Maine. Over the next 40 years, DeLorme expanded this vision, mapping not only Maine but the entire United States and beyond. Easily recognizable by its distinctive red cover, The DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer – the company's flagship product – became renowned for its comprehensive coverage, combining state highway, county and town maps, and federal surveys into a single, reliable navigation resource. A cornerstone in the mapping industry, DeLorme has been directly responsible for many of the major technological advancements over the past decades. Additionally, DeLorme proudly stands as the only major atlas series covering all 50 U.S. states. DeLorme was acquired in 2016 and is now a Garmin brand.
