  • Sabine Lake is a 90,000 acre bay on the Texas-Louisiana border formed by the confluence of the Neches and Sabine rivers. Sabine Lake historically received very little fishing pressure compared to the other estuaries in southeast Texas. That all changed in recent years when numerous double-digit spotted seatrout catches created big news. Anglers from the Houston area to western Louisiana discovered the excellent fishing for southern flounder, spotted seatrout, sheepshead and red drum was worth the trip. The recent banning of commercial gillnets from the lake has allowed shrimp and finfish populations to soar. Recent studies by fisheries managers with Texas Parks and Wildlife show that Sabine Lake contains more finfish per acre than any other estuary in Texas. Featured Species: Spotted Seatrout Southern Flounder Black Drum Redfish (Red Drum) Sheepshead Spanish Mackerel Jack Crevalle Cobia Spanish and King Mackerel
